Through the foundation of the swedish ”Sheltieringen”, an ascending interest for the Sheltie was caught and in its own organization many enthusiasts work was channeled to become a good benefit and pleasure to both members and breeding.

The development of the club during these 30 years has among other things involved a stable membership increase to todays more than 1400 members, with district activities, official and unofficial shows, judge- and breeders conferences and the publication of handbooks.
 


1967 Reg. Shelties: 707
The swedish Sheltiering is founded from initiative by Birgitta Svarstad as an unofficial breedclub within the swedish “Sällskaps- och Dvärghundsklubben” (pet- and toydog club). As the clubs chairman, Bengt Edgren is elected. Disa Källman draws the logotype for the Sheltiering.

1968 Reg. Shelties: 704
The first issue of “Sheltiebladet” is published as a 15-pages stencil. Puppyshow and matchshow all breeds is held, of which 30 is Shelties and 700 paying visitors.

1969 Reg. Shelties: 837
Four issues of Sheltiebladet is published, of which one is a double issue.

1970 Reg. Shelties: 958
The clubs holds its first obedience class. Puppy reference begins. One year free membership to the clubs puppybuyers is introduced.

1971 Reg. Shelties: 1 070
Pia Rundqvist is elected new chairman.

1972 Members: 220 paying and 104 free memberships. Reg. Shelties: 1 074
The first swedish owned Sheltie becomes Obedience Champion, S LCh Björkgläntans Luvsen, handled by Anna Uthorn.

Per Svarstad is elected new chairman. Sheltiebladet is published quarterly.

1974 Reg. Shelties: 1 265
Yearly recurring Champions Gallery is introduced. The free membership is discarded. The Award for Sheltie of the Year is introduced.

1975 Reg. Shelties: 999
Districts are founded in southern and western Sweden and in Dala-Gästrikland.

1976 Members: 350. Reg. Shelties: 861
Warrant’s Veronica, owner Lillemor Almersson, (Laipo’s), wins BIS at a show (SSD) in Skellefteå for the first time in 24 years. Obedience Sheltie of the Year is introduced. Birgitta Svarstad and Ulla Eriksson becomes the first breed representatives among swedish judges.

1977 Members: apr. 40. Reg. Shelties: 829
As new chairman, Sven Lindström is elected. 10-year Anniversary. The first CC-show is held. Judge (adults) Mrs Kath Jeffries, Jefsfire. 95 adults and puppies. BOB Ch (Rusksands) Golden Gwen, owner A-C Bylund. Birgitta Svarstad and Bengt Edgren are appointed the clubs first honorary members.

1978 Members: 487. Reg. Shelties: 924
Obedience Dog of the Year, all breeds in Sweden is the Sheltiegirl  Wait’n See, owner Björn Pedersen, Norway.

1979 Members: 512. Reg. Shelties: 796
Swedish Championship winner in Obedience - SLCh Metras Ulla-Bella, "Jessica", owner Lars Carlsson. Complete registration statistics in Sheltiebladet.

1980 Members: 580. Reg. Shelties: 827
Per Svarstad is reelected as chairman. After industrious work of above all Per Svarstad and Anna Uthorn, the club is applying to become an official specialclub.

1981 Members: 650. Reg. Shelties: 722
”Svenska Sheltieringen” is approved by the Central board of SKK on Janyary the 10:th as specialclub and changes name to ”Svenska Shetland Sheepdog Klubben” (the swedish Shetland Sheepdog Club”). Iza-Belle Carlberg draws the new logotype for the Sheltieclub.

1982 Members: 710. Reg. Shelties: 647
15-years Anniversary. The breed gets its first double Champion in S LCh & S Ch Sagolidens Flamming Jenny. Official obedience trial is arranged by the club.

1983 Members: 647. Reg. Shelties: 766
The clubs first Handbook is published.

1984 Members: 654. Reg. Shelties: 687
A debate about CEA is dominating Sheltiebladet.

1985 Members: 715. Reg. Shelties: 671
Veteran of the Year, Studdog of the Year and Breeder of the Year is introduced.

1986 Members: 772. Reg. Shelties: 742
The clubs annual meeting is for the first time held in combination with a show.

1987 Members: 830. Reg. Shelties: 732
20-years Anniversary. Maribell’s Forever Young "Chess", handler Bitte Cervin, wins this years toy Agilitydog all breeds. Swedish Championship participants in obedience, S LCh Shelgate Idle Ida, handler Kermit Pettersson. Overlapping membership is introduced.

1988 Members: 796. Reg. Shelties: 649
Another Sheltie wins toy Agilitydog of the Year, all breeds; LP Smedjenäs Douglas, handler Bo Larsson. The club arranges its first judge conference with 35 judges. The Award for Breeding Bitch of the Year is introduced.

1989 Members: 941. Reg. Shelties: 779
New chairman: Anna Uthorn.

1990 Members: 1 005. Reg. Shelties: 746
A second Handbook is published. Ch Moorwood Classic Touch becomes the first non-english bred Sheltie English Champion. The first breeders conference is arranged with among other Per-Erik Sundgren as lecturer.

1991 Members: 1 209. Reg. Shelties: 836
The competition Activitymaster of the Year is introduced.

1992 Members: 1 337. Reg. Shelties: 869
25-years Anniversary. Breeders conference in Mariestad is arranged with Inga-Lill Nederman as lecturer. Ch Moorwood Morning Stroller participates in the honorary competition Veteran of Veterans at Grand Hotel, Stockholm.

1993 Members: 1 361. Reg. Shelties: 801
New chairman: Göran Nederman.

1994 Members: 1 312. Reg. Shelties: 862
Breeders conference in Bollnäs with among others Janet Moody, Janetstown, as lecturer.

1995 Members: 1 431. Reg. Shelties: 788
New chairman: Bibbi Lundberg. LP Smedjenäs Dickson, handler Bo Larsson, becomes the breeds first certified Search and Rescue dog. Ch Moorwood Theme of a Memory placed second in the honorary Champion of Champions, as the first Sheltie participant. Three Shelties on top among this years toy Agilitydogs with Ag Ch Starbelle Satin Slippers, "Tess", handler Marie Hansson Hallgren on first place. Large activityweekend in Linköping during 2 days.

1996 Members: 1 433. Reg. Shelties: 955
Judges conference is arranged. "Tess" wins the swedish Championship in Agility (max 40 cm), S LCh Smedjenäs Joy, handler Zizi Ohlsson participates in the swedish Championship in Obedience.

1997 The swedish Shetland Sheepdog Club 30 years!
Carina Jonasson is elected the clubs chairman.

2000 Anna Uthorn is elected the clubs chairman.
