SSSK has the responsibility of the Shetland Sheepdog breed in Sweden. SSSK:s overall goal is to awaken interest for and to promote breeding with mentally and physically healthy, breedspecific individuals with a satisfactory exterior. Since the breeds development is almost exclusively founded on the breeders choice of breeding material, it is important with a common policy that will safeguard the breeds ability to survive. That is why the breeding shall be goaloriented, on longterm and durable. With durable means that it is not suffering from lack in health, mentality or function or emptying the genetic varation. Breeding and mating shall be in accordance with the laws of animal protection, SKK:s regulations and the laws of consumer purchases, and also the breedspecific healthprogram and the breeding policy that has been prepared by SSSK based on the breedstandard. To keep up the positive development, SSSK has prepared the following guidelines as a support for the breeding work: · To work for an increased genetic variation and a reduced rank of inbreeding. · To keep the breedspecific mentality – where the intelligent, alert and gentle is the foundation. · To work for good health that will enable as long a life as possible without any healthconcerns. · To keep a functional exterior with breedspecific coat and the beautiful wellshaped head and the sweet expression. To work for an increased fertility, and to keep the breeds good ability to whelp and rear the puppies.
